Fine grit Aluminum Oxide stone can be used as a finishing stone to fine-tune a knife's edge, or used to maintain an established edge.  Aluminum Oxide is not as abrasive as Silicon Carbide.  Fine grit can work an edge without removing too much metal, too quickly.
